Vijay Rupani, 65, was appointed as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in Aug 2016, after the then CM Anandiben Patel decided to step down. Vijay Rupani resigned from his post on Sept 11, 2021, handing over his resignation letter to Governor Acharya Devvrat at the Raj Bhawan.
Speaking to the press after leaving his top position without precedent, Rupani declared that he resigned in line with the “BJP tradition” of giving all party members equal chances. He emphasised that he remains dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
