Moon

The Moon is the tarot card that encourages our intuitive abilities. As we begin our journey, we are tentative about the route, and it is the light of the moon that shows us the way. The trick to harnessing the true power of this card is to get clarity on where we want to reach in life, so that any other influences along the way are not able to distract us. We would do well to sharpen our instincts; this reduces our reliance on external guidance, as our intuition becomes our guide. This card alerts us to the external influences that affect our decisions. This could be loved ones, or confused thoughts, or a reluctance to exit our comfort zones, or a fear of the unknown. Our inner wisdom will teach us to tackle each of these, and prioritize them, so that we are prepared for whatever hits us. We can have whatever we want, so we need not yield to our anxieties, as these will only lead us away from the path we have chosen.

The usage Arcana stems from the word Arcane. ‘Major Arcana’ means ‘the big secret’. The Major Arcana deck of Tarot comprises of the first 22 cards in the deck. These cards signify the major events in the journey of life of a person from birth to death, and rebirth. Each of these 22 cards has a particular meaning to convey, a definite significance. For instance, The Fool, the first of the Major Arcana cards, signifies the innocent baby embarking on the journey of life; The Lovers is the card of the heart and relationships; The Chariot signifies an ongoing journey; The Death is the card of eternal change, or rebirth; The Moon means the gaining of inner knowledge; and The World signifies the end of the cycle of birth and reincarnation.
