Sumit Antil Secures India’s Second Gold Medal at Paralympics 2020

Sumit Antil Secures India’s Second Gold Medal at Paralympics 2020

Javelin throw seems to be India’s newfound love in the Olympics, as the sport has fetched the country its second gold at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. India’s Sumit Antil crossed the 68-meters mark and made sure the victory was round the corner. Just a month ago, Neeraj Chopra also grabbed gold at Tokyo 2020 Olympics for India.

As if that wasn’t enough, he also broke his own record while doing so. “It was a dream that became a reality”, in his own words. To think that he started as a wrestler and is now clinching gold in Javelin Throw is an interesting story in itself. Let’s go back in time.

A Setback is Not a Full Stop!

In 2015, Sumit met with an accident that would temporarily hold his dreams back. His wrestling career took a hit when a tractor ran over his leg. But as they say, when the going gets tougher, the tough get ready! The sport changed, but the strength and determination stayed there, writing an even more beautiful tale of redemption! His success has also brought the event to light, with Neeraj Chopra asking the countrymen to extend their support to our paralympic squad in Tokyo.

The Stars Were Always Aligned

Born on July 6, 1998, the Angarak Yoga in Sumit’s chart may have kept the fire burning all these years. Right now, he is under the influence of Mars Antardasha and Mercury Mahadasha. The fierce planet (Mars) and the Lord of the ascendant in the 9th house (Mercury) helped him succeed at the bigger stage. The same stars also predict that someone else, someday, is going to break this record. We wish it’s him again!

India’s Run at Paralympic 2020

With Avani Lekhara’s gold in air rifle in standing H1 category, Sumit Antil’s gold in javelin throw in F64, the gold tally has reached two for India. Adding to Avani’s success in shooting, Singhraj Adana also claimed a bronze in the air rifle SH1 event. With two gold, four silvers, and two bronze, India sits at eight medals in Paralympics 2020 as of now.
