Vat Savitri Vrat Story:

This story is about Savitri and Satyavan. Savitri was the daughter of a rich king. On the other hand, Satyavan was leading a poor life, as his father’s kingdom was snatched away. Moreover, his parents were blind. Hence, he was living like an ordinary human being. When the marriage of Savitri and Satyavan was being planned, Sage Narad tells Savitri’s father to avoid Savitri and Satyavan’s marriage, due to the short lifespan of Satyavan. However as Savitri insisted, she was married to Satyavan. Then Savitri observed a vrat, just four days prior to the date given by Naradji for Satyavan’s death. On the stipulated day, Savitri accompanies Satyavan when he goes to the forest to cut wood. Therein, Satyavan gets a severe headache while climbing a tree and thus he lies down in Savitri’s lap. The story of Savitri and Satyavan is full of struggle.

After some time, Yamaraj arrives there with his envoys and starts departing with Satyavan’s soul. When Savitri follows Yamaraj, he tells her not to follow him, yet she insists to accompany her husband. Consequently, Yamaraj gets pleased and tells her to ask for some boon. Hence, Savitri first asks for the eyesight of her parents-in-law, then restoration of their lost kingdom, and also a hundred children for herself and Satyavan. Impressed by Savitri’s wish, Yamaraj becomes soft-hearted and grants her all the boons including Satyavan’s life. Savitri soon returns to the banyan tree and finds Satyavan sitting alive. Thus, Savitri was reunited with her husband and thereafter they spent a happy married life.
