With the onset of technology and the advancement of social media, we do not need to ask kids about the newsfeed on Facebook and Twitter. They know it all. However, when it comes to spirituality, we need to expose our children to the culture and values. As parents, you want your kids to be in the pink of health and excel academically. Whatever knowledge we impart on our children stays with them till their life. Why not inculcate a few shlokas into kids since their childhood? With technology at our hands, it is not a big challenge to teach your little ones a few basic mantras and shlokas for positive effects in their lives.
It may turn out to be an interesting and bonding experience for both you and your kiddos! Add a little rhythm and tune to it, even better for a mischievous kid to start chanting.
Understanding Shlokas for children
Before we move on to them, let us understand what each of these mean. It is also believed that what we recite shall affect us in some way or the other. So are the shlokas and mantras we chant as per Indian Vedic astrology. You do not want your child to get negative effects by reciting or chanting the wrong shlokas or pronouncing it incorrectly. Hence, it is necessary to know the basic idea of the chants and their pronunciation.
Rucha, Mantra, Shloka - What should kids recite?
There are three types of chantings that are done for various purposes - Rucha or Richa, Mantra, and Shloka. In the first one, Rucha, the pronunciation of the verse, the form or tone of chanting can not be changed and hence should only be chanted by those who can follow the rules. The Mantra, must not be changed. However, it can be chanted in a different tune or form. Shloka refers to the praisee’s names which can be changed depending on the Lord of worship. (For example, Om Namah Shivay is a shloka to please Lord Shiva which can be changed to Om Saraswatiyayi Namah if one wishes to pray to Goddess Saraswati.)
Ganesha has come up with these easy shlokas and mantras that you can teach your kids to impart positivity in them. You can start by teaching your kid to chant this easy shloka:
Shloka for good health
ॐ नमः शिवाय - Om Namah shivaay
This shloka is a salutation to Lord Shiva and chanted to adore them and gain their blessings. This shloka brings spiritual bliss and also grants good health.
Alternatively, pouring water on the Lingam or the Shiva linga every day can benefit the kid’s health as well.
Ram – Ram – Ram
This is another quick to learn Shloka which kids can chant easily. It should be chanted 108 times daily. This will bring positive energies in your kid’s health and education.
Patha for health and education
Duttabavni Patha - This is a Patha, which when chanted can improve the child’s health and education. We have shared the first 2 stanzas of the total 26 stanzas here.

Shlokas for children’s good education
The well known Gayatri mantra can bless a child with intellect and illuminate their minds:
ॐ भूर् भुवः सुवः ।
भर्गो॑ देवस्यधीमहि ।
धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥
oṃ bhūr bhuvaḥ suvaḥ
dhiyo yo naḥ prachodayāt
The meaning of this mantra is translated in many ways, one of which is given by Swami Vivekananda: "We meditate on the glory of that Being who has produced this universe; may He enlighten our minds.’
Along with good health, as parents, you would also want your children to succeed in their education and build a career. As we all know, Goddess Saraswati, the deep Ocean of knowledge, can bless us with intelligence and wisdom and help in developing skills in areas of art and music. Let your children chant these shlokas to bring positive energies in their education.
- ॐ वाचे नमः - Om Vache Namah
- ॐ वाण्यै नमः - Om Vanyayai Namah
- ॐ वरदायै नमः - Om Vardayayi Namah
- ॐ वन्द्यायै नमः - Om Vandhyayi Namah

- The students should not study with their back facing the door.
- Telephones, large mirrors, aquariums or other items that are functional should not be found in the study room. These things lead to a decrease in concentration.
- In the study room, the bed should be headed south or west.
- The walls of the study room should be light blue, brown or pale yellow in color.
Ganesha wishes all the students a very healthy and bright future.
