Planet Saturn is called SANISCHARA, which means, “slow mover”. Saturn signifies misery, sorrow, death, discipline, restriction, constraints, delays, humility. Saturn is reckoned as a malefic planet (Shani Dosha) and it rules the two signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. Saturn is exalted in Libra, and debilitated in Aries.

Shani Dosha (malefic Saturn) may arise in a natal chart, when Saturn is debilitated or occupies any of the Cardinal Houses (1,4,7,10) or the 8th and
12Houses in Aries, Cancer, Leo, or Scorpio sign or is retrograde or combust in those Houses except the Libra, Capricorn and Aquarius signs. However,
the effects will be more pronounced in relationships if Saturn occupies the 1st, 7th or 12th House. Saturn is the slowest moving planet, taking 2-1/2 years in each sign, completing one cycle every 30 years. Saturn is the elder brother of Yama, the God of death, and is considered as a planet of justice. Saturn gives the results of one’s deeds through appropriate punishments and rewards.
