Dev Diwali – The End of the Diwali Fortnight

Dev Diwali is celebrated on Kartik Sud(Bright Half) 15- Purnima i.e on the full moon day. On this day, the diyas are lit under the moonlit sky and the family celebrates the end of the Diwali fortnight. Also it signifies the day when we eradicate our inner demons- our inner instincts of ego, anger, lust, greed etc and thus feel the manifestation of God within ourselves.

According to The Ramayas, after leaving King Bali, the Lord rejoined the devas on this day. Devas celebrated His arrival in jubilation and thus Dev Diwali came into being.

On Kartik Purnima, Hindus also celebrate the Matsya or fish Incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to the Puranas, Vishnu took the form of a gigantic fish to save Manu, the father of the human race. Manu saved all the species of animals, birds, reptiles and insects from the primeval flood which destroyed the universe. Hence man is also known as manushya or Manav.

According to Jain legends, Lord Mahavira, the last of the Jain Thirthankaras is said to have attained final liberation or Nirvana at Pavapuri and the first disciple of Mahavira, Ganadhar Gautam Swami also attained complete knowledge on this very day. Jains celebrate this occasion by lighting lamps at midnight and reading scriptures.

The coming year is also not tangible so far but you can know about it if you avail 2023 Detailed Yearly Report.
