The unrest soul of King Mahidwaj haunted the place as it could not attain salvation. One fine day, a learned sage happened to pass by the tree and encountered the spirit of King Mahidwaj, who narrated his story to the sage and requested him to help him attain Moksha. The sage observed Apara Ekadashi fast on behalf of King Mahidwaj, who with the impact of the fast and blessings of Lord Vishnu got redeemed and attained salvation. It was from that day, Apara Ekadashi is observed to practice good karma and ease the path to Moksha.
