Shrimad Bhagwat Purana, which is enacted on the streets and squares, enjoys the status of being a very important scripture in Hinduism. The Bhagavata Purana is the main text of the Vaishnava sect. It is said Bhagwat Katha is like a kalpa tree for the salvation of human beings, by which all human desires can be fulfilled. The Bhagavata Purana containing the secret Brahma element is a virtuous Purana in various ways. There are 12 Skandas (parts) in this Purana in which the story of 24 incarnations of Vishnu is described. In the first skandha, Bhakti yoga and dispassion are discussed. Also, there is information about the 24 incarnations of Lord Vishnu. In the 2nd section, there is about the renunciation of the body through yoga and the origin of the natural creation. By listening to the story of Shrimad Bhagwat, one attains self-knowledge. Hearing the divine stories of the Lord, a person experiences intense compassion or love for the Supreme Lord.
By reciting the story of Shrimad Bhagwat, one’s fortune increases. By listening to the Bhagwat, a person attains superiority in the afterlife after enjoying all kinds of pleasures on earth.
Shrimad Bhagwat Katha teaches humans to live and remove the fear of death as well as liberates from Pitra Doshas.
A person who has not done any good deed in their life, has always indulged in misconduct, who has always burnt in the fire of anger, who has become adulterous, if that person also gets to hear the story of Bhagwat, he/she too becomes free from sins.
Those who deviate from the true path, have started hating even their parents, do not follow their religion, they too become pure if they listen to the Bhagwat Katha.
Any sinful act done with the mind, speech, intellect like stealing, conspiring, making a living with the money of others, even one who kills a Brahmin, if he/she listens or recites the Bhagwat Katha with true heart, then his/her life also becomes holy.
If the story of Bhagwat is done in the name of a person who has entered the ghost-yoni after death (because of the wrong acts that he/she has committed), then he/she too attains salvation by being freed from the ghostly existence.
Muhurat To Get Done Shrimad Bhagwat Katha
To get the Bhagwat Katha done, you should first get an auspicious muhurat/time from the learned Brahmins or from the Panchang. By the way, Shravan, Bhadrapada, Ashwin, Aghan, Magha, Phalgun, Baisakh and Jyeshtha months are considered especially auspicious for organising the Bhagavata Purana katha. But according to scholars, any day when you start Bhagwat Katha is the most auspicious day.
Where To Organize Bhagwat Katha?
Shrimad Bhagwat Katha should be organized at a holy place only. By the way, the special importance of getting the Bhagwat Katha done in one’s own birth land has been recommended. Besides, organizing Shrimad Bhagwat Katha at places of pilgrimage is also considered particularly fruitful. Although there is no special rule regarding the place of the Bhagwat Katha, still if you want to earn more virtue, then you should organize it at a pilgrimage place. So that more and more religious followers can get the benefit of the story. At the same time, according to Sanatan Dharma, you should recite the Puranas at a place where your mind gets peace. Once you have chosen the place for holding the Bhagwat story, then first of all, coat the ground with cow dung. Put a mandapa and a dome-shaped canopy over it and put a flag of Hanuman ji and a seven knotted bamboo for the Pitras to sit on.
The Rules Of Bhagwat Katha
The speaker of the Bhagwat Katha should be a scholar, a scholar of the scriptures, a devotee of the gods, good natured and sweet-spoken. The speaker who narrates the Bhagwat should have complete knowledge of the scriptures and the Vedas. Once the Bhagwat Katha begins, both the Brahmin and the hosts must observe a fast for seven days. If there is no other problem, then eat only one meal at a time.
Lord Narayan should be worshiped by worshiping Ganesh, Navagraha, Yogini, Kshetrapal, Batuk, Tulsi, Vishnu, Shankar, etc. On the days of Katha, the listener and the speaker should not shave, eat junk food, etc. They should observe celibacy during the period of Bhagwat Katha, adopting sattvik food, should show pure and non-violent conduct. If possible, onion, garlic, meat-alcohol and smoking should be avoided during the Katha phase.
