Each Ekadashi Has Its Own Importance
Ekadashi fast is sometimes for two days. One day before the fast, the person observing the fast takes only lunch and does not eat anything at night. The main reason for this is that it is believed that on the day of the fast, there should be no food residue left in the stomach. One has to observe a strict fast for the whole day of Ekadashi. On the second day of Ekadashi, a person observing the fast can eat food after sunrise. No grain can be taken on the day of the fast. Apart from this, devotees can keep Nirjala fast according to their ability. Only fruits should be eaten in the meal, which can be taken at a time according to the desire.
Each Ekadashi has its own special significance. This fast is observed by the devotees of Lord Vishnu for his grace. The fruit of Ekadashi fasting is more than any fast, Havan, Yagya, Vedic rituals etc. It is also believed that the ancestors who observe fast on this day attain heaven.
