Honey

Honey is one of those grandmothers approved medicine for cough and sore throat. Honey is an ayurvedic approved medicine for cough as it contains dextromethorphan which suppresses cough.

You can have it as it is, or you could make tea with warm lemon water. Vola! Your ayurvedic syrup for dry cough is ready. This tea is also good to ease indigestion and weight loss as well. Consume it twice a day.

Peppermint

This one is something which everybody might be aware of. Peppermint has menthol in it, which soothes the throat and breaks down the mucus. Hence, it is part of many cough medicines and menthol cough pills. You can make a tea of peppermint or can inhale the vapour.

Take water and add peppermint oil; take the steam from the hot water by draping a towel over your head, covering your head and face. Directly take moisture from the water.

This ayurvedic medicine is an antidote for wet and dry cough.

Thyme

Thyme can treat respiratory issues and even short term bronchitis. Thyme leaves contain flavonoids used to relax the throat muscles involved in coughing.

You can consume homemade thyme tea by adding thyme leaves to water and strain to get the best ayurvedic cough syrup.

Salt And Water Gargle

Tulsi

Tulsi is a very medicinal plant and used in many ayurvedic medicines.

You can consume tulsi in the form of Kadha and Tea as they are some of the best ayurvedic remedies for dry cough. Here is how you make one.

Tulsi Kadha

  • Add Tulsi leaves to the boiling water
  • Along with tulsi, add ginger and peppercorns
  • Let the mixture boil for 10-15 mins
  • Add black salt and lemon to it
  • Let it simmer another 1 min
  • Strain and drink it hot.

Tulsi Tea

  • Boil water for about 10 mins
  • Add tulsi leaves to the boiling water and give it another boil.
  • You can add honey to sweeten the tea or have it as it is.
  • Drink it hot or warm

Mulethi

Mulethi works wonders on cough and excess mucus production. Since it has expectorant properties, it loosens the mucus, which eases coughing and congestion. You can add Mulethi powder to a glass of warm and have it twice a day.

For Mulethi Tea

  • Add mulethi root to the boiling water, let it boil once
  • Add ginger powder and tea powder
  • Let it simmer for another 10 mins
  • Strain and drink the tea.

Mulethi Kadha

  • Add methi powder, cinnamon powder, black pepper powder, jaggery, along with tulsi leaves to hot water.
  • Let it simmer for 10 mins.

Drink twice a day. Both the Kadha and the tea serve as ayurvedic medicine for coughing in the chest.

Pippali

This herb is an ayurvedic medicine for cough, cold, fever and headache.

Like mulethi, pippali also has expectorant properties, which helps loosen the mucus and let it out of the system.

Pippali Churna

  • Mix a pinch of pippali churna with honey.
  • Swallow the mixture as it is.
  • Pippali Churna makes for an excellent dry ayurvedic medicine.

Sonth

Sonth is also known as Soonth, which is ginger’s older brother. It is a dry ginger powder with anti-inflammatory properties that soothe a sore throat, cough, and cold.

Mix sonth powder with honey
Have this paste 2-3 times a day.
Sonth Goli

On a low flame, add 2-3 tbsp of ghee to a pan.
Add jaggery powder, sonth powder to the ghee and mix well
Make small circles of the mixture
Have it twice a day.
