Ayurveda Body Types
Each person is unique, and the healing and wellness journey for each is different. Ayurveda also follows the same basic concept and broadly categorised it into three body types, taking various ideas and aspects into account.
You may see some people gorge on food but never put on weight. At the same time, some may starve but not lose weight. Some are anxious; some are calm. Ayurveda attributes all this as a person’s body type known as a dosha.

Dosha is a peculiar combination varying from each person. It is a combination of mental, emotional, and physical attributes, which includes their vitality.
Doshas are the energies that are found throughout the body, including the mind. They are one of the primary reasons for the functioning of our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It is an individualistic roadmap to health and fitness.
Imbalance within the body could be because of external or internal factors. These could include diet changes, emotional state, stress, family relationships, and various other factors.
Once the imbalance factors are known, one can take the necessary actions and precautions to rectify the imbalance and maintain a healthy state.
Ayurveda Body Types/Dosha Types
Ayurveda follows the simple concept of understanding the doshas to heal a person or develop a blueprint for holistic well-being.
All three body types of Ayurveda have unique symptoms, characteristics, diet, emotional reactions, workout routine, sleeping patterns, and lifestyle changes.
It is essential to know your dosha and follow the diet as per the dosha pattern to maintain physical and mental well-being.
The Ayurveda body types are Kapha, Pitta, Vata. These energy forces are related to the primary functioning of our body.
They are vital for fluids and nutrients flowing, enabling the basic functionality and lubricating the joints and bones.
Each person has all the three doshas, which are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. However, one is primary, secondary and the tertiary one has negligible effect.

Vata Pitta Kapha Body Types
The Vata body in Ayurveda is made of air and ether. Vata is the air that moves things, known as Vayu or wind, in the body.
Vata is the doshas’ primary force, and no other doshas in Ayurveda can move without Vata.
Pitta dosha is light, hot, and sharply influences digestion, metabolism, and energy. Summer is a homecoming of tiredness and lethargy for Pitta individuals.
Kapha is composed of earth and water. It has the quality of forming a united whole to maintain a particular form.
What Ayurvedic Body Type Am I – Vata Type
Physical Attributes – The dosha individuals do not easily put on weight, as their metabolism is high. They are usually slim and have dry skin and hair. They typically suffer cold feet and hands. Pulse is fast but a bit weak.
Speech – They are usually talkative and speak very fast.
Lifestyle – They are light sleepers and can develop insomnia as well. Likewise, eating patterns are irregular and inconsistent. They are very active, energetic and lively.
Intelligence – They are intelligent, creative, and quick learners but forget easily.
Mental Health – They are low on confidence and can get anxious and nervous under unknown situations. They spend money very fast and are not good at planning.

What Ayurvedic Body Type Am I – Pitta Type
Physical Attributes – The individuals of this dosha are of medium build and are well toned. They always feel hot and warm. Premature greying, early balding is anticipated in this dosha. Because of the heat within their body, they usually get sunburned easily and often develop freckles.
Speech – They speak loud, clearly and enthusiastically. They are extroverts and aspire to be leaders and orators.
Lifestyle – They have a sound sleep and are usually very foody. They dislike hot and humid climates and places.
Intelligence – They are focussed, passionate, very goal-oriented and are very good at managing money.
Mental Health – They can get irritated very soon. They are usually very passionate about life and are strong-headed.

What Ayurvedic Body Type Am I – Kapha Type
Physical Attributes – People of this dosha are usually overweight and tend to put on weight quickly. They have a slow and steady pulse. Also, they have excellent stamina. Wide hips, broad shoulder, thick and wavy hair is often their identity.
Speech – They have a charming and soothing voice!
Lifestyle – The digestion in these individuals is prolonged. They are very slow when they move around as well. They should teach a lot of cardio in their fitness routine.
Intelligence – Though they are slow learners, they are blessed with good memory.
Mental Health – They are very attached to their surroundings, and change is a tricky thing. They are calm and composed in their approach, and people like to be around them because of the positivity they spark.

Combination of Ayurveda Dosha Types
Seven combinations are predominantly found when either one of the doshas is dominant. The combination is a well balanced Vata-Pitta-Kapha (Tri-Dosha), Vata-Pitta, Pitta-Vata, Vata-Kapha, Kapha-Vata, Pitta-Kapha, Kapha-Pitta.
Tridosha is formed when people have the best of Vatta, Pitta, and Kapha. The doshas are maintained by sustaining a good lifestyle, and individuals are free of diseases and considered healthy.
The ayurvedic body type in a person is determined by various factors such as the place the person was born, the place they spend their childhood, the kind of food they consumed as a child, parental, family history, etc.
These three body types can be managed and balanced if we treat our body with good food, thoughts and are well-rested. Failing to this is when we see changes in our body, and the doshas are imbalanced.
Prakriti determines an individual’s physiological significance, whereas Vikruti is the imbalance that is seen in the body. The aim of Ayurveda is always to maintain the Prakriti as that is the natural course of the body.
According to Ayurvedic philosophy, the entire cosmos is an interplay of the energies of the five outstanding elements—Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth.
Vata, Pitta and Kapha are combinations and permutations of these five elements that manifest as patterns present in all creation.

When Ayurveda states healthy, it includes both physical and mental health. It is maintaining the balance between physical and psychological state.
