King of Swords
The King of Cups is the Tarot card that exemplifies a detached, intense and profound personality. We posses a natural charisma that attracts people to us. The other quality of ours that endears us to people is our deep compassion and the ability to perceive their needs. We are also very good listeners. People, therefore, often approach us for guidance, and we help them to look at their circumstances from fresh angles. There are times when we are requested to intervene to solve the knotty issues of people. We never abuse the confidence that people place in us and they look upon us as an avuncular figure. We love to travel and explore the world, and bring back the wisdom of the myriad cultures so that we can spread the best things about them in our own community. Thus we hope to expand the material and spiritual horizons of our own people. Though deeply emotional and intuitive, we realise that we need to keep our emotions in check as we strive for all-round stability and harmony, both within ourselves and in the people we associate with. In a reading, this card reminds us that the confidence that people place in us is a great responsibility, so we need to constantly enhance our compassion and listening abilities to be helpful to them.
Each of the four suits of the Minor Arcana is divided further. Four Court Cards are extracted from each Minor Arcana suit, and they are classified under each category – The King, Queen, Knight and Page, signifying their specific traits. This makes the total Court Cards as 16. The King is creative, inspiring and bold, and wants to create a lasting impact on the world. The Queen is attractive, energetic, cheerful and self-assured; she does not impose, but subtly influences circumstances. The Knights may be termed as extremists, they express their qualities to the utmost limit. For instance, if they are cautious, they will be cautious to a fault, weighing all the pros and cons meticulously before taking a decision. The Page motivates us to enjoy the thrill of mental and even financial challenges.
