Will the hosts let the guests take away the World Cup trophy? Or one of these hosts will try and re-create the history of retaining the cup once it has touched their soil? The roaring Sri Lankans surprised all and sundry when they bagged the coveted Cup in 1996, the year they hosted the international tournament, along with India and Pakistan, for the first time ever. Currently ranked at the 3rd position in the world rankings of ODI teams, Sri Lanka can boast of an excellent batting line-up. Their legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is set to make his last World Cup appearance this time. So, as the team has the advantage of playing at home, and Muralitharan leading the bowling attack, will it succeed in ruling the roost against its opponents?  Or will their relatively weak middle-order batting add to the pressure on their shoulders?

One of the host countries, Sri Lanka will have positive influence of transiting Jupiter, Sun and Mars during this tournament. They are likely to play aggressively during the first round. Their match against Australia will be an absolute thriller, affirms Ganesha. However, the transiting Sun between 17th March and 20th March can create some problems for them. During that phase, their match may get cancelled or some interruption may act against them. However, they will reach the Quarter-Finals. The transiting Sun and Mars are favourable for them during the Quarter Finals. But, if they meet West Indies or India at this stage, they will face problems in rising up to the occasion, as the transiting Mars will benefit West Indies and India. The day of first Semi-Final is favourable for the Lankans. And, if they play against South Africa or India that day, the transiting Sun and Mars will provide them ample support. The period from 30th March (the day of second Semi-Final) is not so favourable for them. It means that if they play the second Semi-Final match, their chances of reaching the Finals are quite feeble. It would be very important for them to reach the second round (Quarter-Finals) with Number 1 position in Group A. The transiting Sun, Mars and Moon are unfavourable for them on the day of the Final match. They have a chance to become the World Champion, only if they meet Australia in the finals.
