Will Ravichandra Ashwin spin the wheel of India's fortune in the Cricket World Cup? Ganesha finds out.

It isn't even a year since the young and dashing Ravichandra Ashwin made his ODI debut in the international cricketing scene, in June 2010. Still, the 24-year-old off-spinner from Chennai has managed to grab enough eyeballs, with some experts even making a flattering comparison with S Venkataraghavan, the famed Indian spinner from the days of yore. Ashwin's USP is his ability to bowl the 'carrom ball', a kind of 'doosra'. The only other bowler who can do it is Sri Lanka's Ajantha Mendis. Ashwin proved he could be a utility batsman too, when he helped prevent a collapse down the order with a useful 25 runs in the Cricket World Cup's warm-up game against Australia, held last Sunday. He was a revelation in the IPL with his miserly spells, conceding 6.10 runs per over and taking 13 wickets. He followed that with a flawless performance in the 2010 Champions League where his man-of-the-series performance helped Chennai lift the trophy. The spinning tracks of the subcontinent should help his style a great deal in the upcoming Maha Cricket Tournament.

Ganesha, with the help of Vedic Astrology, predicts the fortunes of this engineer-cum-cricketer in the upcoming Cricket World Cup.

The young emerging off-spinner of India, Ravichandran Ashwin will have strong support of transiting Mercury, Sun and Jupiter during the first round of the present Cricket World Cup. He is likely to pick up one or two wickets against team Netherlands. However, his performance will be average in the match against England. He may take some wickets, but he will be expensive, feels Ganesha. But then, to salvage his personal efforts and performance during the Cup, Ganesha shall give him a lucky spell. He will deliver a useful bowling spell against Ireland and South Africa, and will also be economical at the same time. But, his performance against Bangladesh and West Indies will be very average. Fortunately, may be due to favourable planetary positions, his performance during the Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals will be helpful for team India. He will be expensive, yet useful during those important matches. If India reaches the Finals, Ashwin will play a very important role, and may take wickets at crucial stages of the Final match.

We wish him good luck. May Lord Ganesha bless him.
