So near and yet so far! Forever the dark horses, New Zealand have made it as many as five times to the semi-finals of the World Cup (in 1975, 1979, 1992, 1999 and 2007), but have never actually gone on to win it. That will make them one of the most desperate teams to grab the honours this time. Though New Zealand's form over the past year has been dismal, their coach John Wright, who has served as India's coach too and thus has a fair idea of the conditions in the subcontinent, feels his squad has a fair chance to win the World Cup this time. Four teams out of each group of seven qualify for the quarter-finals, a format which Wright feels could work in New Zealand's favour. Zimbabwe, Canada and Kenya are the minnows in New Zealand's group and finishing the league phase ahead of them will put New Zealand in the quarters. The other teams in New Zealand's group-A are Australia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Wright feels some of the top teams have an enormous amount of pressure on them, and could wilt under it, and that too could work in the Kiwis' favour.

With the help of  Vedic astrology, Ganesha predicts the prospects of New Zealand in the upcoming World Cup.

New Zealand will have good support from transiting Jupiter but the transiting Sun, Mars and retrograde Saturn may cause few problems to them. They may have some problems during the matches scheduled between 19th February and 5th March. However, they have increased planetary support from 6th March onwards. They will have to work hard to get their place in the quarter-finals. The outcome of their match against Sri Lanka will have a significant impact on their World Cup campaign. The period till 24th March will be challenging for them. But the period starting from  24th March looks good and if they meet India or South Africa in the 2nd or 3rd quarter-finals, they can upset the opponents. So they will have a chance to enter the semi-final if they qualify as Number 2 or 3 in group-A. They will have good support of transiting Mars and Sun during the semi-finals. So if they enter the semi-finals, they can be a formidable force. The planetary influence on the final match day is good for them and the Kiwis can be a real threat for anyone in the finals except for Pakistan.
