Dalai Lama - A year ahead
![]() Introduction: The 14th Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the Tibetans, was born on July 6, 1935 in a small farming village named Taktser in the Amdo region of Tibet. The Dalai Lama is a revered spiritual leader among Tibetans and had traditionally been responsible for the governing of Tibet. He was unseated from this position when the Chinese government took control of Tibet in 1959. Dalai Lama has been fighting for the freedom of his people and his land since the 60's. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 for his non-violent resistance and efforts to liberate Tibet from China. He is still fighting through his non- violent ways. While Dalai Lama is continuing his efforts to gain support of the international community and free Tibet, Ganesha tries to predict his year ahead. Character Analysis The Spiritual Leader of Tibet, Dalai Lama, has Gemini Ascendant and the Ascendant Lord Mercury placed in the Ascendant itself. This makes his chart strong. Mercury placed in the 9th house (house of religious belief) of Navmansa chart makes him well-versed in Philosophy and indicates vast knowledge of religion. Saturn, the planet symbolizing spiritual authority, is placed in the Ninth House of religion in the philosophical sign Aquarius is making trine with Sun and Jupiter. The Sun-Jupiter-Saturn trine indicates that he is blessed with wisdom, internal peace and spiritual excellence. Planetary influences in the Year 2009 The 73-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate was admitted to hospital because of abdominal discomfort and exhaustion on August 27, 2008. He is currently running Saturn-Saturn-Venus period. In his chart, Saturn becomes the Lord of the 8th house and is placed in the sign Aquarius in Pisces Navmansa. Saturn is powerful by being in its own sign which is also its Multrikon sign. However, it may create health problems for him by being the Lord of the 8th house. Currently, he is also under the influence of Saturn Sadesati middle phase. Adding to this, the transiting Rahu, is moving in the 8th house of longevity. So the transiting planets are not in his favour. They may be good for spiritual progress but certainly not for his health. The next Solar eclipse will occur on January 26, 2009 in sign Capricorn in Shravana Nakshatra. Capricorn falls in the 8th house of Shri Dalai Lama's chart. So, the effect of this solar eclipse will be unfavourable to him. Retrograde Mercury, the Lord of his Ascendant, will also join Rahu in the month of January 2009. The transiting Rahu would be moving in Taurus Navmansa at the time. The first three months and particularly the period between January 13 and January 26, 2009 looks adverse and the health of Dalai Lama will be a cause of concern. During that phase he might have to undergo health check ups and could be hospitalized again. In solar return chart, Muntha is placed in the 6th house and Munthesh Moon is placed with Ketu signifying health issues. Saturn-Saturn-Rahu period starting from September 01, 2009 also looks threatening. Considering all these factors he might achieve great spiritual heights in the year 2009, however, amidst continuous health problems.
