Prediction

The schedule for General Elections 2009, which was hammered out after much speculation, surprised many. The polls will be held from 16th April to 13th May 2009, perhaps the longest time span given for any Lok Sabha elections till date.

Though there are many parties in the fray, let us consider and base our prediction on the three main political power houses – Congress, BJP and the so-called Third Front.

At the beginning of the election process:

• The Sun, in fiery Aries, is in its sign of exaltation.
• Venus also transits its sign of exaltation, Pisces. The next day, it becomes steady and then starts transiting in direct mode.
• Another important factor is that Mangal (Mars) transits through the 1st House in the natal chart of the Congress. It also transits through the 10th House and aspects the 1st House in the natal chart of the BJP.

These positions, foresees Ganesha, will have an important bearing on both the poll process and its subsequent outcome. With Sun and Venus both transiting in their respective sign of exaltation, campaigning in a graceful manner will have a better influence over the psyche of voters.

Offering largesse will see new heights. Those who will not stoop low are likely to receive due rewards for their conduct. People habituated to arousing feelings through aggressive sloganeering may not be able to win hearts. By and large, janta is likely to vote for peace. Because of the influence of Mars, all three parties will tirade aggressively to win maximum votes.

Elections held on 30th April and 13th May are likely to see violence disrupting the proceedings. For the most part, the degree of violence will be low on count, except in certain areas prone to poll violence. The rest should see peaceful polling. Youngsters and elders alike will participate enthusiastically, and the voter percentage in urban areas will be higher than what is usually seen.

With Sun and Venus transiting through their sign of exaltation, the anti-incumbency factor is not likely to cut much ice. The outcome seems most positive for the Congress. They are likely to improve their position, with UPA holding enough majorities to return to power.
